The Power of the Cross

Something has recently dawned upon me like one of those lightbulb moments which has reminded me of one of the essences of Christianity.

We have been hearing sermons and part of meetings relating to new year resolutions, new visions, new strategies, etc. etc. and we always tell people to step up, tell people to up their faith, tell people to trust God....

But all of this is useless if people don't understand the power of the cross.

Why would I really want to step up? Why would I want to be more devoted in my walk with God, more trusting of Him, more passionate about Him?

The reason why we put God first is because what Jesus has done on the cross. This is the only way people will 'press on', will 'tell the world', will be 'stronger' in their faith - through a total conviction that Jesus died to take away their sins and make them right with God.

Lets not forget the magnitude of what Jesus has done for each and every one of us through the cross of calvary.

Amen! For the past few weeks, our Wednesday Night Bible Study lessons have been discussing how Jesus was equally God and man. During these discussions, we've addressed Jesus' prayer to His Father on the cross and how even though He is God, He is every bit man, and was praying to His Father. I've been prayerfully contemplating how much faith a man must have, to give his life for sins that have not even been committed yet--and how much love our Father must have to give His only son (or Himself) for a people who will continue to sin inspite of His sacrifice. This is the reason I praise Him and this is why I will spend the rest of my life trying to be more like Him.

It is, perhaps, a reason people do not witness. People do not share the Gospel because they do not realize the power of the Cross. Thanks for making yourself available for God to use you. Keep posting and Keep lifting Christ up.

Amen. I agree. Our whole life and everything we are and do should hinge on the Cross. I have heard it once said that the Cross is our 'anchor' in life. For me, it is my point of reference when life gets tough. And trust me, my life is mostly tough. And sometimes it just plain sucks. But I always find comfort and solace when I remember what Jesus endured during his last week on earth. Wow. All I can say is 'wow'. Jesus, the God of the universe willingly endured the punishment at the hands of his creation.

"I love Thee, Lord, so much more because of what You lost for me. Amen."

I feel so grateful for the sacrifice of Christ and our Heavenly Father! I think it is impotant to remember that Christ still lives! His whole life is an example to us and our future is bright because of his love! Mormon.org
