*sigh*

I remember the day we first met
Two months and three days ago
I knew you were different, special, unique…
And I didn’t want to let you go

Your presence, your smile, your laugh
Created complete chaos in my mind
It was like a distant dream come true
I’d found life’s find.

I don’t want to let you go
Never let you disappear
I’ll protect you like a priceless treasure
Won’t let you shed a tear.

Every day I’ll tell you
That you mean the world to me
I just wish for the future
Will we really be…

Will we really be together?
As the story begins to unfold
Will our relationship last forever?
Like in the fairytales we were once told.

I wish, I hope, I long
For the day when finally
I can tell you just one more time
That we will be for eternity.

A Change?

A few days ago I was walking up the stairs from badminton and mum suddenly said: "Hey Josh... you're smiling for once! It's like the first time I've ever seen u like that for ages!" The fact was I didn't even know I was smiling... but it's definately something different. Normally at home, I am either expressionless or always gloomy, but now it seems like it's not the case. I dunno what sparked it... maybe its because I'm 18? or maybe because I just don't worry much anymore. But either way, it seems like a good change. I remember certain people have always told me to smile. Also I know of other people who just always have a smile on their faces... and it brings so much joy seeing them go about their lives in such happiness. Is their face the truth? Or is it just a facade for a depressed soul? For me, I can honestly say that I am happy in my life. Past worries and memories don't seem like a burden on me, and present and future worries... I will take them as they come and go. I feel like there isn't much to fear anymore. Just smile and be a happy person ^^ It will not only affect me, but will bring one more happy person into the world =P

Figs Camp + more

Again the annual figs camp took place... for the first time by ourselves. A new location, a new speaker, a new topic... everything was new this time around! I took the role of co-ordinator again, and on my part, i thought it was an awesome camp! We had 30 people on camp, which was abut 10 more than original expectation. The trip up to the coast was safe... and was amusing due to our walkie talkies :). At one stage we had the brisbane bus lines on our channel, and another stage we had michael buble singing hehe. We got there to find E and S uncharacteristically early! We had a nice rest and woke up to a beautiful saturday morning. Going into the first session, some people were a bit uneasy at the topic, and this was frustrated by a certain cable (the laptop to projector cable) gone missing! Then we saw a black volvo zooom out and come back 20 minutes later with cables in his hand. First session was really good. We talked about Love and how love is from God, and it requires commitment and the ultimate act of love was of Jesus coming to earth to die for our sins. The second session was about dating. There were interesting points that came out of this session for some people, and if you want to know more, talk to me personally :) After lunch we had crazy/tiring games. Just before sunset some of us walked to the beach and had some relaxing time. After dinner was skits..... and the standout was Mr Fart detective aka Will hehe. Sunday morning brought the session of Marriage... where half of the younger kids tuned out... in truth it was a good session. Then we had a discussion panel, clean up, lunch and a massive photo/relaxing time. After many goodbye's our four car touring party started home. Winding down the coastal plains to the inland highway, that concluded the best figs camp i've been on :)

Busy Holidays

Hmmm... this holidays is so packed and busy!
1. Gold Coast Open
It was a really good tournament... even though I bombed out on some events. Played really well generally and came 2nd in C Mens Doubles and lost in the semi-finals of B Mens Doubles. Mixed doubles.... results weren't great... but I think i played really well in CXD and so did Sandy (accuracy!) and BXD wasn't that bad considering both of us were injured... 2 close games and one crap one (which i injured my hip a bit). Singles for B and C were bad resultwise, but I had bad luck in C... first round against the runner-up (wasted first set and 21-17 in 2nd set) and then nearly beat the winner of the consolation (31-28). B singles was same story as C first round, but i could've won the 2nd set... but i played well so thats good :). Thank you to Jeff, Elaine, Sally, Sandy, Bob, Tom, Sharon, Ben and anyone else who was bumming around with me down at the coast. You guys rock!
2. Figs Camp
figs camp was looking bad when there was less than 20 forms in... but nowww... A MASSIVE 31 regos! Its crazy!?!? I've been resorting transport and groups and everything out the past day. Its looking really really good this year :) so happy. Still feel a bit sad and sorry for those who can't come for wateva reason... i know some of you really want to come... :( will miss you guys.
3. World Cup
A sad end to the Aussies who should have won their game against Italy. The Socceroos' world cup has been marred by referee errors and dubious decisions from start (Nakamura's goal) to finish (Grossi dive/tripped himself on an innocent Neill for Totti to convert at the penalty spot). The Aussies played well and deserve immense praise from the footballing world.

Worst Draw Ever.

*sigh* I have the worst GC open draw in the world -_____-. First is BMS... this draw isn't too bad... okay first round... second round with kenny if i get through. Then its CMD... i thought this would be my good event, BUT they decided to make it groups and put me with the UQ people -_________- its not good... will be an entertaining match but my hopes aren't that high. What's more is that i only get 2 games or 3 max because i'm in a group of 3 instead of 4. Worst ever draw is BXD. Not because of my partner.... even though didn't really want to be with her (lol no offence) but the OPPOSITION! crazy crazy crazy opponents. Come and you'll see. I'm scared :( oh well.

Simple yet so Complex

In the 40 buildings I have to memorise for my one exam, the building pictured above is probably one of my favourites. Its a design by Le Corbusier called Maison Domino. When I first saw it, I thought it was just a normal building frame.... but when we learnt more about this design, it was clear that it was different. This is one of the prototype designs for modern buildings. Concrete structure is used, the floorspace isn't bound by walls, the posts are not at the edge of the floorspace, and the space is of a free form as opposed to being dependant on the structure. This was a turning point in architecture, and this design, in its simplicity, explains the new, complex and radical movement towards modernism.

This year, I/we have likened many characteristics discussed in a building to the characteristics of a person. For example, every building has a context, background and experience. Every person comes from a different background and is in a different part of their life, and is experiencing different things to other people. I think the phrase 'simple yet so complex' applies to humans too. We see heaps of people every day, and we just take them for what we see of them. Yet, each and every person has their own mind, their own thoughts and their own feelings. Every person is going through their own ups and downs, their own rollercoaster, but do we recognise that? As a building has a facade, so does a person. I guess the moral is you shouldn't think that everyone is cruising in life, because its often the opposite. Sometimes its good just to be a bit more careful in things you say and do, and also to help those in difficulties. And the best thing is to make them =)!

Hello World Cup

Indeed the world cup has begun! Joshi fell asleep 30 minutes into the first game -____- and has not watched a game since saturday morning *sigh*

The last few days have been crazy... Friday and saturday were finishing assignment... friday night and saturday morning was world cup... got home at 4 20am!?!?! Saturday 3pm was euan's house warming thingo... was really really fun! and got home at about 10 to enter GC open discussion. Final verdict = josh has to find someone to room with... or pay crazy accommadation rates.
Sunday = lead service and one of the songs were so high that I totally died -__-... but otherwise it was pretty good ^_____^ ... bummed around (well.. it was a meeting) at Onie's lil house then it was off to the 6:30 service to do an interview for figs.
I finally put my entry into GC open! I'm so gonna DIE! All B and C events... yes... even singles... i'm gonna get murdered in B singles, but hopefully i'll get better in singles cos I find it much more fun and interesting these days.
Oh well... good luck in exams for those who have some left... and *poke* for everyone who's finished exams ^_^

The Idea of North

Yesterday the "Oldies" and me went to watch The Idea of North at the powerhouse. Tickets were a cheap $15 bucks..... however I got free tickets since I'm a net bum and replied to their complementary free seats before other people :P It was a really good show... besides a video camera on a huge metal arm swinging around the stage and on top of the audience. The Idea of North is an a-capella group featuring a bass, tenor, alto and soprano. They do all sorts of music styles. Their best song last night was a rendition of "Fields of Gold", and the funniest were "Staying Alive" and their fast lyricing song to a jazz tune (forgot what it was called). Also they made us singing "She's so Lovely" in 3 parts... and as usual it was really fun^^.

After the concert we tracked back to get some food... someone decided to go to this 'middle-eastern' restaurant... and had turkish bread with dips, turkish pizza, kebab meat, and other random and nice stuff! funniest moment was when a police car parked next to a bus stop and jay-walked across the road... cars stopped thinking they did something wrong hehe. THEN a bus pulled up and couldnt fit into the bus stop properly... and we dashed to get a piccy of it to send to the police dep. but... we were too slow :( On the way home was a good time to rest.... after a few minutes of rash driving by 'he who must not be named' .

Next week = Living off Coffee!

Yesterday I finally had my critique presentation for my third and final project: designing a research centre in one of the park areas at Mt Cootha. This involved bussing and walking up Mt. Cootha and sketching parkland, thinking of ideas for my design, getting wasted by the lecturer for a crap design, and then repeating this about three times. All three of my courses have basically finished, and now its time to get my drawings in for folio and my ONE exam :P

Next week I'm going to be living off coffee doing all-nighters watching soccer world cup and doing up all my drawings! how FUN!!! *rolls eyes*

Anyway... today i've been resting from the past few days of badminton and assignmenting... just reading my lecture notes and browsing through random blogs here and there. Its so weird how many people i 'know' or know of. Thinking of going to the Gold Coast open on June 24-25 and doing an over-nighter or something... if anyone wants to join me, tell me :P Figs camp coming up too on June 30 - July 2... Its gonna be awesome!

Well i need to go to uni for some exhibition...

Farewell City of Brisbane Open...

Today was finally the end of the 3 day City of Brisbane Badminton Competition... it started last sunday, continuing yesterday til today.... Many good things and bad things came outa this comp:
1. Badminton is fun
2. Badminton is tiring
3. Singles is fun fun
4. I can play both C and B grade now ^^

Yeah its been a pretty fun week... I got into the Semi's of C mixed doubles (we shoulda won...), Quarters of C mens doubles, 2nd round of B mens doubles and 2nd round of C mens singles. It was also awesome watching/hearing about Elaine killing everyone and getting regraded ^^ even though we can't play mixed anymore :( she's heaps heaps good now! And my uni friend Peter who got into C mixed finals... and won the 'loser cup' of both C singles and mens doubles. Hopefully i can link up with a coach before the next comp and play heaps good :P

Life.

Don't you feel like sometimes you are living in the past? I feel like everything I do... has already happened before in my life. Situations, emotions and issues seem to repeat itself. Is there a way of changing this habit?

That's one of the regrets I have in life. I never seem to grasp any so called 'opportunities' that are available... or I don't even see any opportunity altogether and miss the point! It takes heaps of courage to go against this vicious and cruel cycle of life. And when the courage is there... the opportunity is gone.

One day I'll hopefully have the 'no fear' attitude... but I guess we all have to dig in and hope for the best.

The world through blind eyes...

Can you imagine if you were blind? For me... I don't know how I'd get around if I couldn't see properly.... and thats not even at the stage of blindness!

I always remember what my dad taught me about sight... He always told me it was the most important of the five senses.... and at all costs i should protect my eyes.

Its really amazing though, when you see these blind people in the streets, on bus stops, and everywhere you go! You'd think they'd be struggling their way around... but they are doing really good actually. Some people get frustrated at them, but they are just ignorant of the fact of all the mental and physically strength they use to manouver themselves around almost as good as a normal person. These guys are really nice people... always cheerful and positive. It feels so hard to rely totally on touch and hearing senses and requires a lot of trust and faith.

Ummm this seems like a random entry.. and the moral is ...umm.. never criticise the blind..... they are extraordinary people!

Crazy Days

My conclusion from my first week of being 18: Need More Sleep!

Saturday Night: Fa Cup Final was on. Being a final, and with my favourite team, Liverpool, playing, I just couldn't stop myself staying up to watch this game (it started at midnight). With the score at 3-2 at the 89th minute and liverpool losing, I was getting ready to go to sleep at 2am WHEN Stevie Gerrard scored from 35 metres out in extra time!?!?! Back i sat to watch 30 minutes of enthralling extra time, and then to penalties they went. All we need to know is liverpool won and that made me feel a bit better about my decision to stay up until 3 30am.

Sunday: Played guitar really crap at church. Then had to wait at landmark for about 30 minutes for a table we actually booked... *sigh* nothing special about the food... and off to figs camp meeting i went! After debating for many minutes about the figs camp menu... i decided to call it quits and go to complete my marathon 14 hours of badminton in 3 days.

Monday: After sleeping at close to midnight, I woke up at 8 10 realising i had a lecture at 9am! Scrambled outa bed as fast as ever and out of the house by 8 20ish and got to the bus stop at 8 25! There were moments where i thought i'd actually get there on time... until my bus to uni stopped on adelaide street because of stupid constructions! Just wanted to abuse the company for blocking up adelaide street just before 9am.... SO DUMB! *sigh* got to uni at 9 30 to another boring lecture with the newly named (because of his weird fashion sense and some personality issues) "Metro Mark". As per usual.. he droned on about some house in straddie that someone in the department designed. He could have told us how to construct a timber framing model (which i have no clue how to do) but nooooo... Went to pizza place for lunch to meet up with my high school buddies (belated birthday lunch~). It was really fun! Then went home to catch up on sleep.

Tuesday: After sleeping at 10 30 (*nods* 10 30!) i woke up late yet again at 7 40! Got to uni 10 minutes late only to realise that our erratic and unpredictable lecturer decided to call off our review! What a stoooooopid decision... and i came to uni just for it! *bleh* forced myself to walk back to the bus stop and home instead of hunting him down and kic.. nevermind! :P Did work from then til about midnight ><

This weekend is shaping to be totally awesome! City of Brisbane Badminton comp. on sunday *yayness!* Can't wait to play mixed with Elaine and to play mens doubles.... nonstop smashing!!!! like malaysia does! Probably the first comp. i'm taking seriously.. compared to the other ones i just smash and smash since i didn't know my partners.

Coming 7 weeks are totally crazy though~ Almost every weekend is fully booked due to badminton, figs, uni, concerts and other outings. Portfolio is due in early june.... first and last exam on 16th june... then 100% world cup!!! (since camp prep will be close to finished by then :P)

Thank You.

A BIG thanks to everyone who helped me have a great 18th birthday! Thank you to everyone who came over for the dinner, those who sms'ed me, and those who said happy birthday to me. I felt very special and it means a lot to me that i can share this milestone with all of you guys.

The day started off like a usual sunday... after a rather late saturday night... got a few phone calls, sms's and people on msn saying happy birthday to me at midnight or near (alice was 2 hours too early =P and elaine was first). Got to church and did the usual sunday thing... maccas and setting up. Then we had lunch and music jam session. I got a little suprise and i'm probably going to be playing guitar again =). Then came home, paniced a bit about the dinner and my assignment. Everything seemed good until the esky started leaking and water was everywhere on the floor, and derek called me to say nandos forgot my order and had to wait an extra 20 minutes for them to convince the nandos people that i actually did order and pay, and they cooked up about 5 full chickens on the spot for us.

So was in a anxious mood... then Jason, Elaine and Jan turned up... which made me feel heaps better =) no more big suprises! Everyone started turning up (last person was typically 25 minutes late =P) and two people didn't make it due to family and other reasons. So we tucked in to heaps of nice food... pizza, nandos, noodles, satay, salad, cake, and other nibbles. After, played 'how well do you know josh?' in groups... which the 'white guys' (Ping, Aaron and Warren) and Sally, Elaine and Leonie tied first. Leonie totally fluked the Q 'when did josh last cut his hair?' to the exact day! freaky ayeee. After we played taboo and time crisis 3 when the 'just married' couple made their late entry! I really feel sorry for them.... late + late = mega late... just hope they might cancel each other out and be on time for things for once!

It was a memorable night... thanks again to everyone! you guys are the best =D And I will try to grow up like 90% of people tell me to do hehe.

23 hours of legally being a child

17 years, 364 days, 1hr (and counting)

Well, i haven't really thought about it much but it's finally starting to hit me. In 23 hours time i will be legally an adult. In 22 hours and 58 minutes i won't have to get my parents to sign consent forms, or anything like that. In 22 hours and 57 minutes i should be acting much more mature than what i am normally like. In 22 hours and 56 minutes i have to VOTE (bleh) and do other stuff i didn't have to before. In 22 hours and 55 minutes....

Just before i tip over the edge into adulthood, its appropriate to look back to my past. I'd like to say that i'm proud of everything i've done over the years, but I don't think that is ever possible. However, its pretty clear that i have somehow survived, and that's not an accident. I can remember many instances that i feared for my life, both physically and mentally. Times when death has literally stared at me in the face. Other times when i just want to curl up and hiberate forever. But somehow, i am still here. In the past 17 years, 364 days, 1 hr and 11 minutes, I have learnt the big 3 influences in anyones lives: God, Family and Friends. Without my friends, I would probably have given up on life. Without my family, I would not have had such a headstart on life that i currently have. Without God, I would not have life. Nothing can buy these three things. These things can only be reached from deep within your heart, where the unbreakable bonds of family, friendship and fellowship intertwine with each other.

Oh well..... if there's one sign that will remind you of my childishness when I am 18, it will be me poking you^^ Even if i tried to act like an adult, everyone has their child within (ba da ba ba ba) which cannot be tied down easily.

RULES FOR JUNE 9 - JULY 9

TO ALL WOMEN
These rules from the Men of the World are to be communicated prior to the World Cup in June/July this year...
List Of Rules. 1. From 9 June to 9 July 2006, you should read the sports section of the newspaper so that you are aware of what is going on regarding the World Cup, and that way you will be able to join in the conversations. If you fail to do this, then you will be looked at in a bad way, or you will be totally ignored. DO NOT complain about not receiving any attention.
2. During the World Cup, the television is mine, at all times, without anyexceptions. If you even take a glimpse of the remote control, you willlose it (your eye).
3. If you have to pass by in front of the TV during a game, I don't mind, as long as you do it crawling on the floor and without distracting me. If you decide to stand nude in front of the TV, make sure you put clothes on right after because if you catch a cold, I wont have time to take you to the doctor or look after you during the World Cup month.
4. During the games I will be blind, deaf and mute, unless I require a refill of my drink or something to eat. You are out of your mind if you expect me to listen to you, open the door, answer the telephone, or pick up the baby that just fell from the second floor....it wont happen. 5. It would be a good idea for you to keep at least 2 six packs in the fridge at all times, as well as plenty of things to nibble on, and please do not make any funny faces to my friends when they come over to watch the games. In return, you will be allowed to use the TV between 12am and 6am, unless they replay a good game that I missed during the day.
6. Please, please, please!! if you see me upset because one of my teams is losing, DO NOT say "get over it, its only a game", or "don't worry, they'll win next time". If you say these things, you will only make me angrier and I will love you less. Remember, you will never ever know more about football than me and your so called "words of encouragement" will only lead to a break up or divorce.
7. You are welcome to sit with me to watch one game and you can talk to me during half time but only when the commercials are on, and only if the half time score is pleasing me. In addition, please note I am saying "one" game, hence do not use the World Cup as a nice cheesy excuse to "spend time together".
8. The replays of the goals are very important. I don't care if I have seen them or I haven't seen them, I want to see them again. Many times.
9. Tell your friends NOT to have any babies, or any other child related parties or gatherings that requires my attendance because: a) I will not go, b) I will not go, and c) I will not go.
10. But, if a friend of mine invites us to his house on a Sunday to watch a game, we will be there in a flash.
11.The daily World Cup highlights show on TV every night is just as important as the games themselves. Do not even think about saying "but you have already seen this...why don't you change the channel to something we can all watch??", the reply will be: "Refer to Rule #2 of this list".
12. And finally, please save your expressions such as "Thank God the World Cup is only every 4 years". I am immune to these words, because after this comes the Champions League, Italian League, Spanish League, Premier League, etc etc. Thank you for your cooperation. Regards, Men of the World

Love.

Today, one of my close friends and kinda mentory guy is getting married. With seeing them doing all their wedding planning, and all the other things involved with the wedding, I just have to ask myself... What is the purpose of a wedding? Dictionary.com says a wedding is a process of uniting or joining together. But is that all? I think wedding is kind of like a baptism. It is a public declaration to God and the World that these two certain people are joining together to form one united body. Marriage is God's idea, not mans. It is yet another custom that has been taken from early christian tradition into secular society. Marriage is also the idea God gave to us, to demonstrate Jesus and the Church. As woman was separated from man at creation, Jesus and the Church were also separated. But Jesus loved the church so much... He even died for the church because he loved the church so much. Similar to a man who would die for the girl they love. As man and wife unite in marriage, at the end of time Jesus will be united with the Church, those who believe Jesus came and died and rose again will be made righteous with God. Love is not a just a feeling or man-made idea. It existed before the realms of time. God's love does not end in heartbreak or disappointment. God's love is perfect. Those who have witnessed God's true Love are blessed by the creator above.

Holidays...

After 7 gruelling, packed, and predominantly bludging weeks of uni, we finally get a decent break! But then again, all the things planned this holidays, combined with assignments... it doesn't sound like many uni people will get a decent rest.

These holidays have been particularly good so far cos i've met up with quite a few people who have gone interstate (Melbourne, Sydney, etc.) and come back for the break. Also met up with my high school buddies on saturday for badminton (was supposed to have lunch & dinner with them, but had other things planned... DFO.... omg boringest place in brisbane). Had a huge church lunch at plaza with all the youth which was pretty fun too^^ and played badminton with the antioch guys which is always fun.

On a completely unrelated topic, i just found out that the Australian International Badminton comp (equivalent to Aus Open tennis) is being held in chandler this september! anyone want to come!?!? watch the malaysian superstars!!! Apparently there's an U19 comp that coincides with it ! I want to join hehe :P

stairs, doors, toilets, tables, columns, ceilings... zzz...

Been on autocad for the past 3 hours redesigning my office space assignment for the fourth and hopefully final time! Just realised how much time it takes to make a really really good plan or design. Sometimes you have to edit small things, change big things, start again from scratch, make the illegal or unfunctionable things right, and so forth and so forth, and THEN make it look nice and cool. I think I go the other way round... start with something really good, but when all the other stuff hits me, my design just gets crap and crapper. But I've seen some really good ideas and designs over the past five weeks after being saturated with pictures for 7 hours every week in my lectures and tutorials! We had lectures on space, form and shape, and me and my friend counted the number of times the lecturer said the words space, form or shape. We calculated that she said the word space at a rate of once a minute for two hours :P Last thursday we went to kangaroo point to draw up some pavilions. On the way we stopped at riverside and checked out the buildings there. The buildings are so new and modern and stylish! I recommend checking it out!!! nice nice buildings hehe.

Played badminton 4 times (yes... 4 times) this week >____< . Finally got my smash touch back hehe. Me and Elaine played 3 crazy games on sunday at griffith ><. One of them included a 40 shot rally full of smashes, dives, and crazy net shots! Badminton is soooo fun!

Anyhoo, gots stupid asignment to finish
talk to u all on msn :P

Seasonal Change

Isn't it so nice and cool now that it's Autumn! The summer weather has finally disappearred and now we can look forward to cooler, cloudier, and more enjoyable days! Coming with this seasonal change is finally a real sense of change in my life. I feel at home in uni, and i have comfortably eased myself into this new life and all the suprises it offers. With uni comes more work and time management needed, and this is definately something new to me. I used to wake up at 8 40 to get to school at 8 55, but now i have to wake up at 6 30 to get to uni at 9am for a lecture! I get home from uni at about 5-6, and then it's dinner and ideally heading to the books, compared to getting home at 3 10 and bumming til sleep time! I guess i can't afford to bum around on msn that much anymore, since life is becoming ever so busy. Badminton time has grown from 2hrs a week to 7-10 hours or so a week.

Its just a pity to see time pass so fast, not being able to really enjoy and reflect on everything you've done or seen. Time is independant. Its one of the only things left that Man has not and will never have control of. Time is limited. Everyone has a birth and a death. Everyone will one day face the crossroads between heaven and hell. If everyone in the world just remembered this, they would put more thought into what they do with the time they have left.

As the wise Gandalf put it: "The only thing we have to decide is what to do with the time given to you."

Back to normal~

yes i am all good again... cept i have my first assignment due in 13hrs and 4 minutes?!?! panic time! anyway since my friend wants me to chuck my poems up.... i shall start with this one:

Time goes past day by day
And the feeling slowly disappears.
The love that I thought would last
For ten thousand years.

As the wind whistles by
And the hot breeze moves though.
My mind is silent and still
I suddenly think of you.

Your smile, your laugh, your presence
Fills my lonely, desolate soul.
The uncertain love of mine
Is once again made whole.

As the seconds pass and the minutes waste away
I feel we are gradually drifting apart.
But even if we are separated by life and death
You will always be in my heart.

p.s. You may realise i always write poems to do with romance... i have other ones but these ones always seem a bit better for some reason~

Different label, same deal...

You know, I thought being a uni student would tell everybody that I am an older and more maturer person, people would treat me that way... but I guess i was wrong. My opinion still counts as zilch. My comments are always jumped on with criticism and doubt. Not a single thread of benefit is laid to me, which is worse than before when I was sometimes given the benefit of the doubt because I was 'a kid'. I just feel so useless... so small... so restrained. Everything i have done feels like nothing now. When i offer my time and effort, I get debated with, ignored and looked down upon and sometimes i can feel the anger and hatred against me because i seem to think more wider and outside the box.

These past few months, I've been thinking of using the exit door. Other people and groups have chased for my effort and time, but i have for many years been faithful. I don't know if there is any point of staying in a place that i dont feel comfortable. I dont feel like anything positive is being achieved. People seem to all decide to stuff up my life at the same time....

Maybe its time for a change... a new setting... a fresh start

but for now, its just a maybe...

Sleep on the bus: a few bumps in the head
Sleep during a lecture: begging friends for lecture notes
Sleep during lunch breaks: an empty stomach
Sleep on the bus home: walking/busiing back a few stops
A good night's sleep! (or coffee :P): PRICELESS

10 things that are weird/interesting about uni:

1. When a prac from 10am til 5pm really is a prac from 10-11 and then do what you feel like after. (Monday, prac consisted of going to art gallery from 2pm til 5pm to sketch, so we bummed the whole time before that, and then arrived at art gallery at 2:30 and left at 4 :P)

2. Uni lecturers/professors are so lazy ( me and 4 other people don't have a table, drawing board, filing cabinet, chair or any space = we can't do work)

3. There are a LOT of adults doing first year

4. The microwave line is 99% asian

5. You see so many people you know everywhere you go (ran into the weird and crazy 'pancreas fiona' who is in 5th year doing med)

6. Begging lifts of people who have cars is neccesary to save bus money

7. Photocopying and ATM lines run for 10-50 metres (lucky i have my own photocopying place at the architecture library!)

8. There are many people who look alike so apparently its hard to tell your friends from random people (yes, my friend did that in melbourne... went straight up to her and got the wrong person :P)

9. Architecture is awesome because there is no homework and no exams :D (for the 2 subjects ive been to anyway)

10. Making asian groups is neccesary to survive in uni! (we got about 10 asians in architecture and about 6 of them are in our little group hehe)

bye bye Holidays... Hello Uni!

It's been such a long and eventful holiday that I've somewhat become accustomed to this time of no real structure, heaps of suprises, being flat out busy without any schoolwork weighing down on me and at times feeling that i have no purpose in life. This is the time i work out that i reach my maximum potential in life when everything is choc-a-block and i have to do things by a certain time, or else i die.

These last few days I've met up with all my old friends, and also met some new friends, which is just an awesome feeling. These people come from all nationalities, have different interests and beliefs, yet we can still be such a close group, its just a miracle! Yes, sometimes we do exploit our differences (We paid out one of our friends (a guy) for choosing nursing in uni) but its just makes the world such a better place with all our differences.

Also been watching some asian movies over the past few weeks. WHY does every asian romance movie involve someone dieing in the beginning or before the setting of the film!?!?! Oh well... watched some really good movies, which carry some real truths. One of the things that are foregrounded is that when someone gets a 'second chance' in seeing a loved one, they always make the most of this opportunity because they realise that they did not give enough attention or show how much they love their loved one in their 'first chance'. The reality is that we only get one chance in this world to show how much we appreciate or love someone, and I reckon we should always tell someone how much you love, like or appreciate them!

Uni is coming up next week... I think the past 3 months has acclimatised myself into acknowledging that I am now a uni student. I have a life ahead of me, that everything i have done in the past 18 years has prepared me for. Now it is time to stop autopilot, grab the steering wheel, and pray that God will look after me!

Poem dedicated to all of my migrating friends

This poem i wrote in 5 mins flat is especially dedicated to my best friend since grade 5, Shannon, who is leaving to Melbourne on saturday for uni. Also this poem is dedicated to all my other friends migrating for uni or to get away from me or whatever.

Untitled

We’re standing on the crossroads,
A place I never thought I’d be.
All of our childhood memories
Suddenly rush back through me.

I remember the day we first met,
When you were young and naïve,
We’d always be there for each other
And I never thought you’d leave.

The days we just teased each other
And played our childish games,
I never thought this time would end
But now I can only visit it in memory lane.

Now we are standing at the crossroads
And it’s almost time to part,
But no matter where you are
You will always be in my heart.

Valentines... Real or Overrated?

Yes... the best day of the year, or the most depressing day of the year, of just another day.... has passed once again. This day has caused a stir among people: Is Valentines day a stunt by retailers and florists for more cash, and a public stunt to get people who usually are shy or embarassed, to give to the one they love, OR is it a lovely day where lovers do wonderful things for each other? Well... I believe it can be both! When i went to the florist on monday to buy a valentines gift for someone, I noted how inflated the prices were! They were absolutely crazy, although the rose looked awesome~ There were even packages for roses which cost a few hundred bucks! On the actual day, I saw heaps of restaurants jam packed full of couples having their nice lunch/dinner together. And guess what.. they slap an extra 10-20% on the normal charge! Also, i saw my friend who normally doesn't give stuff to people usually or at valentines, give TWO valentines presents! I think that if you loved someone, you'd prepare to give them gifts any time, just for a little suprise or whatever, but some guys just wait and wait til valentines to give gifts to their friends/loved ones.
At the same time, i think valentines can be a great day for couples and friends! Whats better than spending a day out with your good friends/loved ones and maybe being childish and having a nice candlelight dinner :) Valentines day shows everyone how much love there is in the world, amid the wars and troubles in this day and age.
For me, Valentines was an awesome day, not just because it was Valentines. I had lunch with a friend, then dropped off a rose at another friend's place, then went and watched the VB cricket finals with Jan, Wazza and Onie! Some desperate people sent valentines greetings via banners i.e. "Sorry hon, We'll do dinner next year" (there won't be a next year mate) and my friend wanted to put "Murali will you be my Valentine?" on a banner! oh well it was fun! Hope everyone had an awesome Valentines!

Is a steinway worth buying?

Yes everybody... The real and original debate is "Is a Steinway worth buying?" For thsoe who don't know, Steinway is the best (i think) piano maker company things, and their pianos apparently are really really good. Their best piano is very exxy though.... about 500 grand i hear. Anyway, we had a debate on sunday which started with this question.

Yes, this is a steinway.... will cost u 500 grand...

My opinion: What a waste of money. Even if I was a pro pianist and i was filthy rich, I would not buy this Piano. Then I'd have to buy some land and build an elliptical room to hold this thing to make the piano sound the best it can be.... which will set me off another 400 grand or so... so the real price tag of this piano is roughly $1 million AU.

Ok.. and the Debate went on... and we started comparing my friend buying a piano to me buying a car. If you think about it, He likes playing pianos, I like driving cars, so its a similar issue. A piano of this price can only be appreciated with a great pianist and by listening to it. A car, acts as a transport, and an expensive car is an engineering masterpiece, an art and design masterpiece, has its luxuries, and even with all these can be purchased for under 100 grand. Bt for the sake of mentioning it.... Look at this beautiful car....

Sleek, Stylish, Simply Stunning.

If you gave me the option to buy a Steinway ($500 grand, up to $1 million) or this Porsche 911 Carrera ($200 grand), and I had to pick one, I will definately go for the Porsche 911 Carrera. If i want to listen to steinway music, I will buy a CD with some Grand Piano Master guy playing for 20 bucks and put it into my crazy sound system in my Carrera and i will get to listen to Steinway quality piano too! Wat a bargain! and then I can buy a cheap Yamaha grand piano and i can play a piano too!! wat a bargain :)

Who wants a boring black piano for $1 mill when you can buy a Porsche Carrera for $200 grand!

Reflection: December - January

These past two months have been a roller coaster ride for me... highs and lows everywhere.. and a new change in life for the better :)

The longest holiday in my life so far has paid some dividends and had some consequences... lots of fun, rest and bumming around... while spent a lot of cash, gained a bit of weight, and haven't found a job yet :(

The best part of this holidays was to go back to malaysia and meet my reles, go shopping where everything is cheap, and to check out how my home is hanging. It was there when i also realised how important my family and friends are to me... without them i'd be a stranger in the world, and no one likes to be alone... While i was there, I witnessed my cousin's marriage, which was a high point, and my Uncle's funeral, which was a low point, which overshadowed the new years celebrations. His last words to me were 'I am very happy.' He was happy with what he had done throughout his life, and that his last week on earth was surrounded by all of his family and relatives. He was also happy because he was looking forward to life in heaven. Other memorable points of this trip were visiting my birthplace :), going to the tip of Borneo :), lots of shopping in KL :P, heaps of food, and seeing S.H.E (HEBE!!!!) in KL :)

When i came back here, it was busy as! QYC camp in currimundi, lots of friends to meet up with, got my enrolment to UQ (Architecture. yay!!), Reles visiting, and shannon's suprise 18th :P

Now I'm looking forward to Uni and all the suprises these next few years hold. Also, have to say goodbye to heaps of my friends who have/are going overseas and interstate for uni. I promise all u guys i will visit u sometime :) Keep in touch everyone while we can....

My cousin's 10 kilo fish!

Selamat Datang!!!

Yayzz malaysia is awesome hehehe!!! It's about 30 degrees here every day with aircon everywhere i go (for those melting in brissy) and everything here is cheap as! Today i bought a KFC meal (like a 2 piece feed) for 8 ringitt... which is less than 3 bucks AU!!! Satays are 15 cents AU each... which is like dirt cheap.... but it tastes brilliant!! Shopping is good here, and all my reles are here, which is pretty cool. The only thing that makes malaysia crap is its physical shape. It looks like a dull place, and at some places it stinks real bad. But really, malaysia is a nice place, its got beautiful rainforests, modern technology, and everything is like 3 times cheaper than australia! one day malaysia will become the asian capital muahahahaha.

me = going to KL on saturday (yayyy). Looking forward to going to the biggest shopping centre in south east asia :) hope i have cash left lol... guess i have to beg for more from my parents. Did you know that malaysia has 5 main languages... its crazy! Theres malay, mandarin, cantonese, english, and hakka. Its amazing how people can just interchange between all 5 languages so easily here! oh well... back in Aus next wednesday... and offers come out next thursday at 1am sigh... At least i know i should be getting architecture! then 5 more years of slavery sigh...

anyway.. malaysia awaits me :)

Death....

I hate Death.
It's dark, cruel, horrible.
It's not right. Its not the norm.
But it exists...

It must be painful waiting for death to overcome you, lieing there in a hospital ward...
It seems crazy to be alive, when death is at your doorstep, and nothing you can do will stop it.
It's just torture to watch you there, when I know that any second, you will be gone, and all the power in the world cannot stop this.
Every second to me seems like nothing, but to you, its another second to be with us, to be alive on this world.
Every breath i take, drink i drink, and food i eat, seems like nothing to me, but to you, it is a luxury.
Every time you look through your eyes, everything seems picturesque, even the run down houses and messed up streets is like a masterpiece.
Even the smell of the sewers is like a fragrant perfume.

I can't even comprehend what it feels like to be in this situation. I hate death. God has claimed victory over death. Yet physical death is still so painful. God tells us to live every moment on earth for him. Live life and take all the opportunities God gives you, as if it is your last. Only then, will physical death be something much easier to face.

But still... death is horrible. Waiting for it makes you feel helpless. I wish there was no death...

Life Changing Moments

Crap. Crap. Crap! Tomorrow is D-day for all grade 12'ers since our OP comes out. For me, its gonna be when all this really hits me. I've finished school. I've graduated from grade 12. I'm entering the 'real world'. I'm gonna be an architect. Still, finishing school hasn't sunk in. I still feel like formal was a night or two ago, and i haven't really graduated yet. Now my hopes are pinned on that enter button, when i enter the qsa website. No doubt many lcd screens are going to be broken. Computer repair companies are going to have a field day. but i still have 24 hours to gear up for that :)

Just thinking about moments that have changed my life so far:
  • my first visit to malaysia (1998)
  • my trip to the USA(2000)
  • graduating primary school (2000)
  • getting top .03% in queensland in maths comp. and winning maths team challenge (2000)
  • joining FIGS (2002)
  • my Baptism (2004)
  • Finishing High School (2005)
  • PB badminton comp. record 5 win - 1 loss (2005)

Other Moments people will remember for the rest of their lives (feel free to add)

  • Finishing UNI
  • first date
  • wedding
  • 21st birthday
  • day you get your pension/superannuation

What's Commitment?

During the last fortnight, this topic has been in the forefront of my mind: what is commitment? Some people are commited to doing what is right, others are commited to do what is good for them, and other people are commited to what they want to commit themselves to. For me, and many people, especially those with an english background, have a commitment to what they say they will do, whether they like it or not. For example, someone invites me to a party and i tell them i will go. The day before the party, another friend invites me to their party. I would say no to him, and go to the first guy's party because i made a commitment to show up to his party when i said i would go. However, many other people, and i'd say predominantly asian, purely from experience, seem to think they can just say yes to everything and then make up their minds later, and rock up to whatever they want to. This, to me is not commitment. It may do justice to one person, but complete sells out another. How would my friend feel if i promised him a year ago that i would be there for his wedding, but not make it because i found out there was a party on that day a week before the wedding, and went to the party instead of the wedding because i thought the party would be funner for me. This has happened to me on many separate occasions over the past week, and it seems there is a disturbing but reoccuring pattern going on. What is commitment? Doing what you say you will, or doing what you feel like?

For the women out there...

One Flaw In Women
By the time the Lord made woman,
He was into his sixth day of working overtime.
An angel appeared and said,
"Why are you spending so much time on this one?"
And the Lord answered, "Have you seen my spec sheet on her?
She has to be completely washable, but not plastic,
have over 200 movable parts, all replaceable
and able to run on diet coke and leftovers,
have a lap that can hold four children at one time,
have a kiss that can cure anything from a scraped knee to a broken heart
-and she will do everything
with only two hands."
The angel was astounded at the requirements.
"Only two hands!? No way!
And that's just on the standard model?
That's too much work for one day.
Wait until tomorrow to finish."
"But I won't," the Lord protested.
"I am so close to finishing this creation that is so close to my own heart.
She already heals herself when she is sick
AND can work 18 hours a day."
The angel moved closer and touched the woman.
"But you have made her so soft, Lord."
"She is soft," the Lord agreed,
"but I have also made her tough.
You have no idea what she can endure or accomplish."
"Will she be able to think?", asked the angel.
The Lord replied,
"Not only will she be able to think,
she will be able to reason and negotiate."
The angel then noticed something,
and reaching out, touched the woman's cheek.
"Oops, it looks like you have a leak in this model.
I told you that you were trying to put too much into this one."
"That's not a leak,"
the Lord corrected,
"that's a tear!"
"What's the tear for?" the angel asked.
The Lord said, "The tear is her way of expressing her joy,
her sorrow, her pain, her disappointment, her love,
her loneliness, her grief and her pride."
The angel was impressed.
"You are a genius, Lord.
You thought of everything!
Woman is truly amazing."
And she is!
Women have strengths that amaze men.
They bear hardships and they carry burdens,
but they hold happiness,
love, and joy.
They smile when they want to scream.
They sing when they want to cry.
They cry when they are happy
and laugh when they are nervous.
They fight for what they believe in.
They stand up to injustice.
They don't take "no" for an answer
when they believe there is a better solution.
They go without so their family can have.
They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.
They love unconditionally.
They cry when their children excel
and cheer when their friends get awards.
They are happy when they hear about
a birth or a wedding.
Their hearts break when a friend dies.
They grieve at the loss of a family member,
yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left.
They know that a hug and a kiss
can heal a broken heart.
Women come in all shapes, sizes, and colors.
They'll drive, fly, walk, run, or e-mail you
to show how much they care about you.
The heart of a woman is what makes the world keep turning.
They bring joy, hope and love.
They have compassion and ideals.
They give moral support to their family and friends.
Women have vital things to say and everything to give.
HOWEVER, IF THERE IS ONE FLAW IN WOMEN, IS THAT THEY FORGET THEIR WORTH

HolidaY!

Wow it's so fun being on holiday... I've nearly forgotten about school, but every day I'm still in touch with all my buddies. The past week seems to have been really packed (but they weren't...):

Saturday 19th: Had badminton at 7:30am!!! what a crap way to start holidays :( Anyway... that went until about 1pm, then had to go to E & Sel's engagement party, which was pretty good (typical asians... loads of food...), and at night was at Aaron's 21st Party at some remote place in rochedale...
Tuesday: Met up with my old mate Shannon and went job hunting around Sunnybank and Garden City. I don't think it was very successful :( At night, went to Koshin's place for her farewell... she's going to a better place... (New Zealand... lucky person...). It was a bit sad but it was really nice to meet up with everyone.
Wednesday: Checked SAI's with alan. Got 388, 384, 383, 377, 358 & 356 for Physics, Chem, Graphics, Maths B, English, Maths C respectively. It was alrite... i was happy since i barely studied this year until exam week.
Thursday: Went to Wellington Pt with the asian group.... Had to catch 2 trains and walk about an hour to get to the beach/jetty. THEN it started pouring when we reached the beach bit... so we just waited and ate lunch, then did a bit of fishing, and bummed around the beach until 4ish. Met some crazy guy at park road station... seriously... he was fully swearing at us and spat at us and everyone on the other side of the station were telling us to smash the guy.... but we swiftly left the area and went home.
Friday: I have no recollection of what i did that day... except that i had music practice and badminton, where i spent 1 hr laughing at this girl wen i was supposed to be playing.... anyway....
Saturday: Last FIGS study for the year :'( its been a long year and we made it finally.
Sunday: nup totally forgot wat i did
Monday: formal photos came out. I turned out better than i expected... except in the group pics where it looked totally gay/yuck when the guys in the middle were hugging everyone else.
Tuesday: fully bum around day :P

yes thats about all i can take of remembering.... the past is so blurred... or my memory is getting real bad cos of holdiays :P

Seniors 2005

its been twelve years coming
and finally its passed by
the feeling of being completely free
but i'm not satisfied. I don't know why.

The sad and happy feelings
when we say farewell to our friends
when we thought we'd be there for each other
til the very end.

Memories playing on our minds
good, bad and all
the times we all spent together
remember guys.. keep in touch and call!

Our final week was just crazy
Heaps of photos in formal and grad
Hopefully it will have been a memorable time
Something we all would have enjoyed, instead of being mad.(at people)

I don't know what to think,
sometimes I feel I screwed this final week
Things i did, should have done, didn't do
It feels like im swimming up a dam steep creek.

I know i am really crap at poetry
and i'm winging this on the spot
but WE ARE SENIORS 2005
AND FINALLY... WE FINISHED SCHOOL!!! (fullstop :P)

it's been a crazy week, ending in a crazy day where we screwed up wivenhoe dam so much. Used so many megalitres of water in a crazy water fight at roma st. Some people (.....umm Magnus :P) even chucked around huge eskys full of water and ice, and half of us got fully wet. We had lunch before that, and after the huge water fight, we had like a huge group photo session. After that, met up with Owen and the dam asians (who were too scared to get wet, so they did something booooring) and went to city. Owen was trying to find tiff at city coz he had her bag full of clothes (well i was carrying it around...) so they stopped at sushi train for snacks. After that... when we were getting on the bus, i saw like 10 BGGS uniforms and owen decided to stop at cultural station to give tiff her 27th missed call. AND AMAZINLY she picked up, so me and owen went back while the others waited (they ditched us and went on a citycat... grrr). Owen was really really funny and homo when we found tiff at King George Sq. HE LITERALLY WENT AROUND AND HUGGED EVERYONE. It was so funny, i wish i had my camera out on video! Apparently i was supposed to do it, but its not my natural instincts to do that kinda crazy stuff so :P. Then we went to southbank to find our stupid friends gone citycatting (they woulda been late for their dinner haha..... serves them right for ditching us!) Yeah we headed home at about 6... It was a pretty fun day.

Anyway, Gotta run. I'll update soon!

HAVE FUN EVERYONE!!

Formal Fever

Finally the Formal has come and gone.... and it went like a flash. In the arvo, i was trying to dye my hair with semi-permanent dye... took me and DY an hour... but the dye didn't come through :(. Well Marky and Ping came and picked me up with his merc. and we drove to hamilton to pick up Crystal.. my partner :P After a bit of navigation... we stumbled upon the BIGGEST HOUSE I have ever seen..... its crazy with a stone stairway thing going from the top balcony to the bottom where the gate was. She took a bit to get down the walkway thing.... but it was worth the wait.. she looked so beautiful and pretty... just stunning (mum used the word 'sexy' for the first time i can recall). Yes... lalalala got to the formal, and took zillions of pics, found my friends and Crissy's friends... waited for about 1hr taking photos before dinner was served. The food was probably less than average... especially for such an occasion, and that wasn't too great. We took a few professional photos as individuals, as a couple, and with the other BGGS girls and their partners. Music was OK.... me and DY predicted like most of the songs. I think most of us were crap at dancing and just made it up. At the end i went and said bye and stuff to all my friends, especially the ones I've known since primary school, and my close buddies. It was pretty sad, but it looked like i was crying cos i think i rubbed glitter into my eye..which stang a bit. After the formal we dropped Crystal home (cos shes a good girl and needs her sleep :P) and then did some karaoke and stuff. Its 8:20 pm tuesday now, and i havent slept since monday 5:30am... so figure. Overall, it was a great time to spend with my school buddies, and with my awesome partner :) I hope it will be a good memory for all of us.... which is one of the last memories of our high school years.

Game Over Man... Real Life time :P

11/11/2005 10:31am Josh's Proclamation: OVERRR!!!!

Yes... thats right.... hasn't sunk in yet (especially after 3 hours of group shopping...... which sucked really bad...) but I've finished high school FORVER! I can only feel the satisfaction of no rough waters for the next few months... something i've never been able to truly feel in my life. These last 3 exams were one of the hardest ones i've had... probably because i didn't study much, and the topics were pretty crap to say the least.... probability... damped simple harmonic motion...electrolysis...organic chem... all boring boring hard stuff.

My plans for the next 3 months or so:
  1. get a job
  2. lose a few kilos
  3. train in badminton to make it into states/national team and/or
  4. train soccer left wing position

Don't Blink...

I remember it like yesterday, when i put on my green macgregor uniform for the first time... and now I'm about to say farewell to this memorable time of my life. All the great times and some of the sad and gloomy times are in the forefront of my mind as I yet again look back onto the period where i have learnt the most about this world God has flung me into. Yesterday was when i found my feet, today is where the trials, tests and exams occur, and tomorrow, i hope to be a better person than i am today. But i will never forget the days where i stayed up and played games all night with my buddies, and the times when i played soccer in the rain just to get wet and have fun (and get a cold), and the times where we just lazed around at lunch and played good old big 2. Now we are getting older and going our separate ways, but hopefully, we will never forget this time, this group, this memory... which is drawing to a abrupt close...

Nail in the Coffin

I'm not playing guitar at church anymore...
Today I thought I played well and all, and even MC and others said it was good and stuff... but then SOMEONE just looks at me and shakes his head... its so frustrating when people put you down, and I know i shouldn't quit just because of one person, but its for varying reasons but that is probably what made me make the decision. I don't think someone who does not come to practice has authority to be able to say someone did something crap, however talented or good they are. Church isn't about perfection in self, its about being with all your church friends and worshipping God and reading the bible and stuff like that... God does give people talents and gifts, but he doesn't give them so we can judge others who aren't as talented, he gave them so we can help each other.
On a better note, Got my hot little hands on my tickets to Malaysia! Going back mid december and coming back just in time for new year :) Can't wait to go back to see all my reles and eat myself to my heart's content and to buy loads of stuff!!!

Teh Joshi Design Showcase :P

After cramming a 10 week assignment into 1 week last term, and slowly doing the rest of the business part of the assignment, my awesome and simple graphics toy has been completed. Meet R2-D7, R2-D2's long lost brother's cousin's son in law! It looks so sweet and sexy after i designed it on computer :P I hope the teacher accepts my ultra funny powerpoint, which slams every other toy design in the class because their toys are so market unfriendly. It's so biased... and i need like a VHA10 in this assignment to catch up to my friend who wags school just to do graphics.

Life is going great... except for a few minor dilemmas.... and i need to catch up on loads of sleep...

17 Days til I'm free...

Wow... I can't believe I'm about to finish school so soon! It feels kinda weird, since i've been schooling for almost 13 years of my life. I can almost remember the first day of school for me... back in Auckland. I was really scared back then, being one of the few asians in my area, and not being a very good talker. Not much has changed since then... I'm still smart, lazy, getting into trouble for things i don't do, always laughing at something funny, shy and crap at starting conversations. One great difference is that now i feel much more mature and independent (yes you laugh, but its true!). I'd love to turn back the times to when i was young and carefree, didn't care about anyone looking at me or anything like that. That's one bummer from getting old i guess...

Still, I can't really picture myself as a uni student, or having a full time job, or any of those things that come with age. I hope i will always be the same little joshi i have always been... however old i may be!

A Poem...

I'm bored... and feeling a bit poemy... so I chucked this amatuer poem here...

I hear the rustling leaves of fall
And feel the icy winds of winter
It seems there is no hope
Nothing that could change this heart

I see the grey skies of darkness
And the impenetrable fog of despair
Dark days are slowly settling in
The love beginning to disappear

Behold! The night is nearly over
The dawn is soon to come
The frozen heart of yours
Begins to soften back to life

Spring swiftly approaches unto us
Cherry blossoms are ready to bloom
The once monotonous world of mine
Will shine like the stars above

The love I once laid my eyes upon
Meticulously shaped into its true form
A love shaped by the maker above
Given by grace to the undeserved one.

It's a 5 min job but hey... its good enough...

The Idea of North

On Saturday a few friends and I went to the Idea of North concert thingo at the Powerhouse. Me and E got there late (probably early for E) and we missed the first song... and i was buggered running through new farm park. Lucky we ran though, because Idea of North is such a good acapella group. I'm a music guru, and their live gigs sound so great, and their live songs sound a lot better than their already good studio recordings. They have a good balance since they have one bass, tenor, elto and soprano, and they can even vary who does which part... they are just brilliant! Not only are they good, they are funny! They do the most hilarious songs and add the funniest lines ever! There was this one where one guy was doing a solo and the rest were doing air guitars and stuff... the song was about this guy who likes to go to the pub and hook up with girls or something, and one time he was drunk or something and tried to ask the ugliest girl out, and she said NO. It's so funny... Also this other short song asking all these funny questions and ended in confusion from the question: what meat is in spam? They do really cool sounds in their songs too... its like controlled beat boxing and i so want to learn to do that!
After the concert we were sitting down and someone said we should start an acapella group too. It was dubbed by me 'The concept of South', and I am so taking the funny guy's part in this group! I can be the funny tenor :P It would be cool if we just did it for fun though... but I doubt it will happen.... there's still hope!

Wake me up when november ends...

I'm going to hibernate; act like a machine; think like nothing happened. I just feel like I want to hide forever from the world. Yesterday I summed up all my courage and asked (she who must not be named :P) to my formal. It didn't really go as planned, but I'll tell you guys that some other day. Anyway, apparently her valedictory is on the same day as my formal, WHICH kind of is really really really crap. Anyway, the day probably couldn't have got worse... then my cowboys lost the grand final, my liverpool team got thrashed by chelsea, real madrid won and kept a clean sheet, bali got bombed and God knows what else probably happened. Yeah... this week has been really crap, and i have a feeling the next few weeks are going to be worse. I just want to hide and get away from all this stuff happening to me. I have like 0% luck and it seems fate enjoys going against me. I just wish something significant would go right, or else its better to hibernate, or act like a machine that don't have feelings or emotions. Every glimmer of a high is met by a rock solid low, and this trend has been going on for like 17 years of my life. Either all the good times i should have are saving up for some spectacular future, or I'm just one more unlucky guy in the world. At the moment, I'd give so much for her to come to my formal, or even to see my team spectacularly win a game, but it won't happen. Someone remember to wake me up when November ends...

September/October... Romance Blooms...

September and October has been a pretty hectic month by itself, with post QCS symptoms, second semester major exams, QTAC preferences being due, FIGS camp, and tonnes of other stuff. Yet, people have still found space and time for romance, and its quite freaky because I've never seen as much of it in my life. Janny and big Harry... i mean Warren got married, I've been hanging around at uni and with friends...... and its the first time that I have seen so many of my friends going out. A certain couple also decided to deepen their relationship to marriage ( I won't name anyone at this point in time) and its pretty exciting to see them take this step, cos both these people are pretty awesome. And last but not least, everyone is going on (and I am too) about partners for the Senior Formal at school. I've had my fun by joking around with people, but when it gets to the real thing, it seems pretty nerve racking, especially when you have never really done anything like it before. And then theres all the stupid preparation of transport, suits, other accessories, doing hair, and WHAT IF WHOEVER YOU ASK SAYS NO!!! It sounds so embarassing and it feels like if they say no, it feels like you or the other person will never be friends. Oh well, I guess we guys have to cop the rejections and no's and move on in life :P Anyway, have to go.......

The Run Home...

Ahhh 39 days before my fantastic high school career ends. The run home isn't going to be pretty..... sitting on HA10 for chemistry and 1 complex off HA10 in maths B. Planning to prove my Maths C teacher wrong and that i can move from HA6 to VHA1.... either way i'm gonna improve from the HA6, so thats good. Formal coming up..... day after block week. I better get my act together and seriously ask someone soon... or i'm gonna be partnerless... which could suck. This term is going to be so fast and crazy..... but lucky for me there is no physics or english work to do because we only have 1 assignment in those subjects.. and graphics is a bludge as usual.... so maths b maths c and chemistry to study for now!
I decided not to go to Malaysia anymore since we aren't going to KL, and theres not much point of me wasting 2 grand just to see my cousin's wedding. I'd way rather save that for my beloved mazda 3 or equivalent :) so im gonna have an awesome 3 month break at home.... hopefully i can go to the coast with my friends loads and bum around, that will be awesome.

Ahhh all these happy thoughts of 3 month break!!! better focus on school work first. back to this stupid relativity thing..... c ya

Fantabulastic FIGS Camp

After 9 months of ideas, 2 months of organising, and 3 weeks of crazy email conversations, figs camp has finally come and gone. All the time and effort has finally seen the end product, even though the long term results can never be truly seen. Its been a great learning experience for me, ever since i took this 'crazy' move by volunteering for the job. I think i was probably the least equiped with time, experience, and leadership skills, but i feel that i was spiritually led through the whole thing. in the month prior to the camp, i have racked up more than 100 emails concerning the camp, and its been at times frustrating that I could not convey my message clearly with everyone else. However, one person who was specially placed by God to help me with this task, gave me some good advice: put your foot down! I was also encouraged immensely by the leadership group, and i am happy they withstood all my emails going around without going crazy at me. Some people would plainly verbally encourage me, but others would give me an awesome smile or funny face, which really lifts me. BLT was great. It didn't really take much time and energy out of me, but it gave me an insight into God's growing leadership group (i was the youngest...) but that just made me try even harder, pray even more, and i knew that God would work through me. QCS was a relief. I probably didn't do very good, but it didn't take much time or energy. The big beast that blocked me from FIGS camp was the Block Exam Boogey man. I probably did the whole term's work each night before the exam, and i probably deserved my B for Chemistry and C for Maths c, but i think a bit of heavenly intervention and my knack of failing my first exams and acing the rest helped me to top physics and maths b (like top top of the grade :P). That took away a whole term's worth of energy, but i was blessed by God's provisions for me. Every day after each exam i would g to my computer and do all my FIGS stuff. That week was crazy because i was running around with the rego forms (because no one in the chinese church gave them to me until the due date). After that, time flied to FIGS camp. The first night was an hour of wasted time waiting for the chinese church (who are unbelievably slow) to come and give us the room allocation. i was kept up til 1am because some inconsiderate people kept on talking about crap (especially when they warned me about not keeping them up, which i didn't do purposely last year after i got hit by a hammer and a screwdriver in the dark). Saturday morning was beautiful. Everything went planned except that we did not have a keyboard (I told someone to bring one... but i guess others thought otherwise). The baptisms were very teary for me. One of my closest and best friend was baptised, and his compulsive gambling girlfriend. They told me it was cold in the pool, so i jumped in later, and it was nice as. When we were playing soccer, it was one highlight of funnynes in the camp. No, it was not my beautiful goal, but I crossed to jeff... he jumped, the ball went waist high, and to say the least... it hurt. Me and him went down the simultaneously, i was laughing and he was in eternal pain. The night game was pretty funny, but you can hear carson's funny balderdash descriptions next time. That night was crap though. I slept at 12 while the rest were playing cards til 2am. E came in at about 3am. No one closed the door, and i was looking straight into it when i woke up at about 4am. I couldn't sleep after that... Sunday was great though. Mark wrapped out an awesome and eye opening bible study into revelations, and even gave some of us a rendition of QUEEN. We wrapped up with some topical discussions on evolution and drugs/smoking/gambling. Lunch was good ( i only had 1 serving of each meal thank you very much). The way home had breathtaking views from mapleton down to maleny. Thanks to everyone who went to FIGS camp, and big thanks to Mark and the other leaders. FIGS CAMP 2005 VERDICT: ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!

Show offs....

If you just got a bad mark for an exam and you feel pretty bad, do you want one of your 'friends' to rub it in? I don't think so. I have a very short tolerance levels for show offs... but when someone is feeling really upset, i don't think its a very appropriate time for people to boast. I just got a really bad mark (to me anyway...). This guy who did beat me by one rung decided to rub it in. He's always like that and i'm normally used to him boasting and showing off to people, but i was really upset, and so were a few others. I don't think him saying 'i did absolutely nothing and beat all of you's! Waa i'm so good'. If i was the teacher and i heard that, i would put his mark down like straight away. Things like that are uncalled for.

At least my marks overall are very consistant and alrite, so i can come back up again next term. Next term, i'm gonna study so hard, going to prove to everyone i am the real deal. Bye bye computer but i shall make up for a term of hibernation for you.

I MADE IT!!!

I feel so awesome now! no more exam pressure. No more qcs headaches. Resigned to getting a really crap OP. Time to burn organising figs camp and just chilling around! How awesome can life get. I've finally found some confidence in organising figs camp, thanks to some awesome people who are continuously poking me towards the right path. I've learnt loads ever since i took up this role.

Today i was running around sunnybank plaza, wrecking havoc as per my usual self. All these oldies looking at us thinking we are truanting lunatics when actually we just finished maths b exam, which incidentally was quite a good exam for me :). All the stuff i wrote in my english column about stereotyping teenagers were quite evident today.

Has anyone realised that Willy Wonka has EXCESSIVE make up, as with the rest of the cast of that movie. Johnny Depp looks like a woman playing Mr. Wonka, its really scary and alarming (not that i care). oh well... time to burn, so awesome!

sigh

I remember the last time i tried to co-ordinate something big. Everyone assumes things are happening their way. No one listens to wat I say, and at the end everything becomes mixed up. Things tend to repeat themselves, but i hope i can do this properly. It's just very frustrating when people say this and people say that, and that is not really wat I said or was how it was supposed to be before. I dunno... hope everything works out right for FIGS camp... or I'm a dead man in both worlds.

The lull before the storm...

I think this is my last non-panic day before i have to start studying like a maniac on exams... This week has been so busy... BLT and QCS did not help... (well they did..... QCS not as much..). QCS is so stupid... The last question in the SRI was to write about the atmosphere in a picture given. They gave us about two pages to answer this question... and it was the hardest one. I wrote some stuff about romance and some women waiting for a guy to come into their lives. I just blabbed on and on about crap. The theme for the written was discovery... I did an editorial about Space exploration being a waste of time. I was able to incorporate something about God and the Broncos too! ohhh yeah, for the soccer fans.... The SR had a piece.... written by LES MURRAY!!! i was laughing for like 2 mins... but it wasnt THE les murray.... some lunatic poet... oh well...

Time to get ready for exams...

Humbled...

I'm such a nothing. Just a void. A pawn in the chess board. An insignificant figure. Yet it astonishes me how someone can use such an imperfect being for their ultimate goal. I can confess... I'm not a good study writer. I'm not the best leader a group could have. I'm not the most focussed person around. I like to bum around when I am able to. I'm no good with talking to an audience more than 1. I'm so imperfect, yet God still works through me.

Today for FIGS, I wrote the study, and in the beginning I was so happy because I finished writing it so early. But in reality, I wasn't very prepared today. I shifted the leadership to someone else. I kind of bummed around and annoyed people a little bit in the study (sorry everyone ><). I feel terrible. Yet God worked through me. He was able to arouse the thoughts of a new christian. She asked great questions about being a christian. Questions that i knew the answers to, but i had once struggled with or always practiced. But i didn't know how to answer them properly. Luckily, i had awesome leaders to help answer the q's. Thank God that my study gave glory to him, despite its imperfections. Its truly a miracle.

Christianity too structured? only from society's view!

Today, i was talking to one of my best friends when the topic of religion came up. We both refuted the big bang theory, he was for evolution, i was for adaptation (which is not mutation of genes and so on), but then he said that religion is too structured, and organisational these days. I must say, that i have to agree with him on that one, well thats the society's view of christianity. He thought that religion should be based on one's understanding and point of belief, which is one major part of coming to a relationship with God. All the interdenominational wrangling, the spiritual heirachy business (all the deans and popes and whatnots) and christian factions which have become way too outspoken have tinged the great name of God in the eyes of the lost. Companies like Hillsong have sometimes gone too far organisationally, and have taken away their sole purpose in need for consumer exposure. Affairs relating to high profile religious figures (who i doubt are even deserve their high profile place, or even of 'the faith' if they get caught for sexual misconduct and other vile crimes) do not help the image of christianity.
For me, i did not come through some organisation of brainwashing or any kind of pressure. Sure, i went to sunday school, but that means little. I became a christian in my own way. I had the information about Jesus and sin and so on. That wasn't my struggling point. I pieced history, based on facts, with the bible. I pieced christian teaching with good morals. I pieced the history of the world with the history of God: the bible, and everything fit perfectly. I had no doubt in my mind that God was the way. Jesus is the way to God, He is the truth, and He brings eternal life to me and everyone who believes. This is my own way of coming to the point of belief.
Christianity is not an organisational cult. It is personal. Me and God. You and God. It doesn't matter what everyone else says or thinks. In the end it is God.

Josh's house ideas (very biased)

For graphics... we have to design a house... heres just some of my whacky yet funny ideas

  • swimming pool with dive board "Ben Kennedy Dive Board" (for those who don't know, Ben Kennedy is a NSW rugby player who 'dived' or faked an injury in the stae of origin)
  • Wally Lewis Statue (its going to be 'borrowed' from suncorp stadium :P... note the ' ' )
  • blue carpet (walk all over the blues)
  • Maroon roof (maroons on top)
  • Bradd Fitler toilets (special toilets which carry the name of one of the most hated NSW players)
  • a lift (for comfort and ease)
  • a walkalator (to get from the front of the house to the back of the house without any hassle)
  • 3.5 metre tv with 9.1 home theatre system
  • swimming pool has retractable depth system ( i think i invented it..... unless someone has already patented it... so i guess i wont say more unless you ask me :P)

yes.... very interesting house.... it will be finished in 1 week :P

Christians... but not Christians

When I look around myself, i know many non-christian people, and also many christian people. But there's something I don't get: some of those christians are just christians by name, non christians by faith. They all say they are christian, and sometimes even boast or try to evangelise, but if you look at their lives, you cannot see any christian example. I know that God forgives their sins and wrong doing, but the thing is that i doubt their conversion to begin with. They swear, they put God's name in vain, they act probably worse than non-christians at times, but then they say they are Christians. Their priorities must be mixed up in some way, and peer pressure is probably a big influence in their lives. These people must nudged back into the correct path somehow, before the devil can utilise this potential spiritual weapon.
Christians have been severely marginalised and stereotyped in the modern world. The concept of christianity has been stained by those who are not putting God as their first priority, and this adds to the misconception of the only true God in the universe. It is my personal desire to correct this misconception, and to tell the world that christianity isnt a bunch of crazy people who desire rules and regulations which make life boring and not worth living.

Random stuff...

I finished reading harry potter 6 yesterday... its quite an awesome book! JK Rowling must be such a great writer... everything just flows so well, and she only gives away what she needs to, and does not spoil any ending. Because of this excessive reading, my neck is so sore that its not funny.
This morning, i had the first assessment of the term... stupid graph sketching exam for maths b. Its so ridiculous, and we werent allowed calculators!!! My key to getting good marks... my CASIO!!!! anyway, i did pretty good i think, had to scribble in the graph in about 3 seconds because i wasted about 5 minutes staring at my answer until it finally clicked.
Im getting an award at assembly this wednesday! my first academic that i've got in 4 years. I reckon i should've got one each year, but i seem to slack off a lot in the first semester. At least now i know where i stand op and rank wise. need to improve a bit to get that elusive op2 :(. sigh more work... better get going.

Friends

I was just wondering to myself how much friends mean to me, and i cannot really fathom where i'd be without my friends. I wouldnt say my family is very good at communication, especially when i have an older brother 11 years older than me, and parents at retirement age. We always get caught up in silly disputes, and i wouldnt say my relationship with my brother is good. I don't think i've had a conversation with him in my life. My parents are very old fashioned, and they are against technology (always find something bad to say about it) so i get chucked into stupid arguments. I get really depressed and fell quite lonely at home. I always wish that i could have someone to talk to, someone that really cared about me and could at least show it in some way. I wanted to find friends who i could relate to, play around with, and have fun with. Just seeing these type of people in my life puts a smile on my face.
Since about two years ago, its been getting better, one step at a time. i stumbled on a new group of friends at youth group, and all of them made me feel welcome. Some of them, whom i've become great friends with, have changed my life in massive proportions. This also impacted my school friends. I have found my true friends among my school friends. There may not be a lot of them, but its better than having a group of 'fake' friends.
Without this change in my life, i cannot really think where i'd be. Its a blessing to know that i have people who truly care for me and encourage me through the good and the bad times.
A smile on your face can almost bring tears of joy in my eyes.

Where's the Security?

Following on my previous entry, I'd like to express my utter concern for the security of Australia. Because of our 'close alliance' with the US, and continuing support on the 'war on terror', Australia is becoming more and more insecure. After 9 11, Bali, Madrid, and now London, it is not a matter of if, but more when. The heart of the political world was hit first. Then the prime holiday destination of the western world was hit. Now arguably the most prominent historic and modern city is hit. America, Asia, and Europe has been bombarded. It's obvious there's one more piece to this global 'puzzle' of terror.

Even after recognising this, the measures of security in Australia as compared to London or NY are considerably less. Hypothetically looking at Brisbane, there is barely any security on public transport. Brisbane is the second largest city in the world (not population wise, but some comparison i read), with a lot of public transport. But there is no security on most of them. When i first caught the train, i thought there would be a ticket guy or someone checking things. However, i was wrong. Anyone can walk in with a suspicious bag, without any type of check whatsoever. Buses don't have a way to determine if a bus has been hijacked until it misses a few stops or loops, and that will be too late. I heard that the bridges on the brisbane river are a prime target to cause maximum chaos. if they were knocked out somehow, brisbane would be in disarray.

I'm not saying that brisbane is going to be the next target, but i'm saying that, quite frankly, brisbane's security is crap, and so is every city except for maybe sydney.
In this hopeless world, we must be vigilant, and always on high alert. Also, we must remember that God is always in control. His plan cannot be fathomed, and cannot be stopped by mere mortals.

Pray for London

I got home from watching Fantastic Four at about 10 30pm last night. I was feeling pretty good, beacuse the movie was better than I thought. I was thinking of heading straight to the sack. When I walked up the stairs, my parents asked if i had heard anything on the news. I said no, then i was told of these london bombings. First thoughts: "You gotta be joking...". I ran to my trusty computer and watched some news reports. Second thoughts: " Not again..." This definately was not an accident. London just won the 2012 bid. Its the 7th of the 7th. The bombs were planted in perfect coordination (a few were detontated when two trains passed each other, to cause maximum impact). The bus was to show that this was not a malfunction, and to give a physical reminder of the terror. All this planning and coordination, for such a ruthless attack... makes me feel so disgusted.
Please take a few moments from your busy lives, and pray for London. Pray that God will work through this chaos, because He is in control of everything.

OK... But maybe not...

I'm becoming sick and tired, seeing and experiencing people saying or putting themselves into something, but not following it through. I don't know if its just me, but people seem to do that involuntarily, not even thinking about the responsibility they have put themselves into when they made the initial agreement.
The first time i experienced this was when some friends at school decided to start a band for the multicultural assembly. When i asked them all, they agreed to join, and initially agreed on the song. The first few practices were muck around, and when we were supposed to get serious (4 weeks before the assembly and 1 week before auditions) they all dropped out because they didnt like the song and they didnt want to get so serious.
The more recent one really is a debate about priorities. But just let me say this: I have been part of the Worship team for more than 18 months, and in those 18 months i have always been reminded that i chose to be part of the team. Being in the team there are some rights and responsibilities. I don't ask for many days to be rostered, but i seem to be on the front every sunday because i'm probably filling in for people, and the roster for me is pretty hectic. That's a responsibility i have to do, unless i am prevented to do it i.e. im sick or out of town.
Some people don't recognise what responsibility is, until it hits them in the face. I'm only asking for people to remind themselves of the things they put themselves into, and either carry them out, or provide sufficient reasoning to prove they can't do it.

Proof that Joshi is NOT evil...

After months of criticism that Joshi is evil, Joshi has decided to use his mathematical mind and logical thinking to prove that he is NOT evil:

Since Joshi is not a girl

Therefore Joshi does NOT equal evil

Therefore Joshi is NOT evil!

Christening of "Hebe"

Thursday 30th June 6:26pm: We have the christening of the new member of the Josh Tan family... the magnificent Yamaha Guitar... and the KORG tuner!
First the fresh-smelling guitar was taken out of the bag by joshi. Joshi and pRoXi marvelled at that beautiful looking guitar for a whole minute or two. Then the trial runs by joshi and pRoXi.
First song played by josh tan and pRoXi: Romance. Verdict: Absolutely beautiful!
Second trial song: Everyday. Verdict: too good!
for the tuner christening... Joshi held the plastic bag while pRoXi pulled the tuner out (of its former life of sin and darkness, doing nothing in the box :P).
Trial run of the KORG tuner: works great!
The guitar is now called Hebe, because shes one of my fav. singers (shes asian btw) and i don't know, i just felt like calling the guitar Hebe :P. She's also the Goddess of youth or somethingorother, (and i'm trying to find a way to link that to my guitar).... ANYWAY.... you get the point :P
love love love this guitar!!!!
