Basically a recent email has been a catalyst for my mind to think about worship, and worship really is. I'm involved with this 'worship' ministry a lot at church and also other church-related events (such as RICE, BLT, Carols, etc.) and I come across this question a lot. When we say worship, we immediately think of bands/organisations such as Hillsongs and Planetshakers, and their mega-concerts with 'awesome' sounding music. We think of Darlene Zschech, Chris Tomlin and Matt Redman, and we immediately associate them with worship.
But is worship really about these people or bands? Is it about being the best sounding band or performance ever? Is it about idolising these earthly songwriters, singers, and songs, and attempting to imitate their feat?
I think this chorus gives us a clue on what worship is about:
I'm coming back to the heart of worship
And it's all about You, It's all about You, Jesus
I'm sorry, Lord, for the thing I've made it
When it's all about You, It's all about You, Jesus
Worship is not about following some earthly figure or group. Its not about being the best to be heard by others. Its not about our super church service, or our technically perfect music team, its not about us...
Its about Jesus.
I'm sorry, Lord, for the thing I've made it
When it's all about You, It's all about You, Jesus
When it's all about You, It's all about You, Jesus

Worship is not about bands or music, it is about a feeling with in your heart as you are thankful for all the blessing you have received in your life and all you will receive.
Sure music makes you worshipful but you can get by with out any music at all, just the peace that goes beyond understanding!
Amen Sister :)
